Bridge Building

We have been learning about forces and how they help shape the sort of bridges that we build.

We learned that there are three main types of bridge design; beam, truss and suspension.  Using this knowledge we designed and built our own bridges.

Miss Fletcher set the challenge that our bridges had to be 30 cm long and strong enough to hold an object a track

In my group there were (name who was in your  Mikayla, Ella and Olivia .  We used egg cartons, ice block sticks, a box and hot glue  to build our bridge.

Here is a photo of our truss bridge.  What I like best about our bridge is the triangles.

Speech Writing

For the last two weeks we have been working on writing speeches.
My topic was Why are trees important
We had to present them in front of our class.
I think I did a good job

Here is my speech.

Have you ever wondered why trees are so important? Trees are a type of plant that give us oxygen. Trees help  give us clean air so we can breathe. I think trees are important and here are my reasons
why.

Firstly, we get oxygen from the trees leaves and the sunlight so we can breathe. If we didn’t have trees we wouldn't be breathing. Trees help filter out the bad air like Carbon dioxide and replaces it with the good air we can breathe, Oxygen.

Secondly, trees give us lots of shade on a hot, summery day. For example, if we were at the beach and there were no beautiful pohutukawa trees, there would be no shade and we would get very sunburned.

Finally, trees also provide us with fruit to eat. Without trees we wouldn't have any delicious fruit and also bees wouldn’t have a place to collect nectar. Trees also have roots that help hold the ground together to stop erosion. Trees also provide a home and food for birds, the birds help spread seeds to make new trees.

I think trees are important to us because trees are part of nature. They give us oxygen, they provide food for us and for animals and they also give great shade in summer.

Maths

This week we used popcorn to learn about volume and capacity.
